War with Iraq,
An Opinion Piece

Spring Equinox starts with a BANG!

George Bush knows that Equinoxes are powerful times, especially the Spring Equinox, and he seized the moment to start an undeclared, pre-emptive, unilateral war with Iraq, "and let the heavens be damned!"

So despite millions of people around the world protesting against this war, strong restraint urged by our trusted friends and allies, and condemnation from the floor of the United Nations, America under the "absolute rule" of Gunslinger Bush, has begun this energetic year with mass murder - of our own beloved boys (and girls too) in uniform, as well as countless Iraqi men, women and children who just happen to be at the wrong place (in their homes and streets) at the wrong time.

"Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely," - the appearance of democracy notwithstanding - while the dupted, the deluded, and the dispairing peoples of this once morally-inspired nation are asked to "patriotically" support the aggressive obsessions of the oil-mongering political leadership that currently "runs this town" (Washington DC) with the authority it wrested by a questionable vote, won by less than 20% of the voting-age population of this country. (It makes the point that ignoring the priviledge of casting a vote in the Presidential elections, meaningless as it seems when the choice is either tweedle-dee or tweedle-dum, can have serious implications.) And the not-so-United States will reap the far-reaching consequences of this hastily fabricated war for generations to come!

I am not only referring to the ultimate bankrupcy of the Social Security System that the Baby Boomers are counting on to ward off the cold in their declining years, and the inevidable rising deficits that come from robbing the piggy bank to feed the insatiable gluttony of the greedy, paid for by cutting back on those programs that help the truly poor manage to survive in this materialistic "paradise." I am referring to the consequences for all Americans, especially those who can afford to travel to non-American shores, who will experience the growing hatred for American arrogance and wealth through random terrorist acts committed in the name of Allah's revenge.

Even more scarey are the consequences that will inevidably arise from a world being fed by the media frenzy of watching "the World's bully" take out a relatively undeveloped country a fraction of its size because it possesses something "precious" (remember Gollum) that America thinks it cannot live without and is willing to destroy any pristine wilderness in the world to get! Oil is the root of the matter, despite the litany of ever-shifting justifications for this war. "Weapons of Mass Destruction? North Korea, which is flounting its growing nuclear capabilities, is not even "worthy" of direct negotiations. They have learned by watching the US thumb its nose to the United Nations and its allies that even sitting at the table with the Amewricans is "meaningless." Why? Because the US is going to do whatever it pleases - so there is no point even talking! And you know, they are right.

So why can't every other country in the world do the same? Pakistan wants Kashmir, so it should just take it and if India objects, well a few well-placed nuclear bombs should shut them up! Or the other way around. India could bomb Pakistan and since world opinion doesn't matter any more, and pre-emptive strikes are now "acceptable," why not? In fact who ever acts first has the advantage, so why even try to negotiate a solution?

This works for Isreal. When they want parts of the West Bank, they drive tanks through villages and build "settlements" in the ruble. Then they are justified in putting a wall miles deeper into Palestinian territory to "protect their illegal settlements." Hey, everybody's selfish. But after America's pre-emtive strike, there's no reason NOT to act in your own best interest. After all, "If the unmistakeable World leader can do whatever it pleases with impunity, even when it flies in the face of world opinion, why can't I?" is the question every tin horn dictator should be asking himself right now.

This world has been seriously destablizied by Bush's war and the ripples of his actions will impact us all for generations to come. The setback for sanity in a chaotic and troubled world cannot be minimized. And the repurcussions now set in motion will be far- reaching and unstoppable. The moral high ground of international politics has become swill for swine. It is a dark day for Planet Earth and it will take more than God, Allah, Buddha, Vishnu, and a legion of Angels to save our souls from the consequences of the irrational reasonings of a tiny group of very small-minded men.
